    Wooden Wall Lights

A wooden wall light warms a wall as no other material can. This selection of 56 models in solid walnut, ash and oak pairs the clean line of Scandinavian design with a soft light, filtered through opal glass or thrown back by the wood itself. These are pieces that age well, in the literal sense.

Why choose a wooden wall light

Wood is the only lighting material that gains from growing old. A wooden wall light in walnut darkens slightly over the years, ash lightens, and that movement is part of the object. It is also the most welcoming material in a bedroom or a hallway: where metal throws back a cold, hard light, solid wood absorbs and warms it, giving the output an amber cast that LED alone does not produce. A wooden wall light sits naturally with the floorboards, doors and furniture already in the room, which makes it the safest choice when you would rather not commit an interior to one strong direction. Every piece here is cut from real timber, never from a wood-toned finish.

The timbers and finishes of our wooden wall lights

Solid walnut dominates this collection of wooden wall lights: deep brown, strongly figured, it is the timber most asked for in contemporary interiors. Ash and pale oak offer the Scandinavian alternative, brighter, and better suited to a room with little natural light. Several models come in either finish, light wood or dark wood, chosen at the point of order. The wood is combined here with other materials: opal glass for a diffusing globe, real travertine for a mineral contrast, and a gold brass finish on the mount details. Some pieces are carved from a single block; others assemble slats that cut the light into stripes across the wall.

Where to fit a wooden wall light

The bedroom is the natural ground for a wooden wall light. Fitted either side of the bed at 120 or 140 cm from the floor, a pair does the work of bedside lamps and gives the tables back. Choose an adjustable model if you read, or one with an integrated switch so you can turn it off without getting up. The hallway comes next: two or three wall lights spaced evenly turn a through-route into a gallery. Then the lounge, where a wooden wall light of 30 to 40 cm can hold a bare stretch of wall above a sofa, or flank a chimney breast. Avoid unventilated bathrooms, though, since solid wood copes badly with permanent damp.

Choosing well among our wooden wall lights

Three criteria separate the models. Size first: 10 to 15 cm is enough for a hallway, allow 20 to 30 cm for a bedroom, and more for a lounge. Then the light source: integrated LED models give around 50,000 hours and need no attention at all, while an E27 Edison screw (ES) or G9 capsule lets you pick your own bulb and its colour temperature. The diffuser last, which changes everything: an opal glass globe gives an enveloping light, whereas a wooden wall light with no diffuser throws a tighter beam, which is useful for bringing out the texture of a wall.

Every product page states the timber, the finish, the exact dimensions and the light source. If the wood appeals but you are after a more mineral contrast, look at our travertine wall lights as well.
