About us
Choosing Alborra means treating a light not as one more point of brightness but as the thing that settles the atmosphere of a room. Have a look through our collections, let us guide you, and find the pieces that will light your home for years. Welcome to Alborra.
At Alborra we are convinced that a light is not simply an accessory. It is what decides whether a room feels welcoming or cold, whether a wall gains depth or stays flat, whether an evening carries on or winds up early. Before the furniture and before the colour of the walls, it is the light that sets the mood. A soft spread of light, a material with real presence, a piece that lasts: that is what we look for in everything we sell.
It is also why we care so much about what the light passes through. Our alabaster wall lights and our opal glass fittings give a muted clarity that no synthetic shade can match. Travertine and wood do not let light through but send it back: they lend grain and warmth to whatever they light.
Alborra grew out of a liking for well-made objects, the kind that age without going out of fashion. We started from a simple observation: painted plastic lights that imitate stone are everywhere, and lights made of real stone at a reasonable price are rare. We wanted to close that gap.
Our shop began with a clear ambition: to offer lights that do more than illuminate, and that make you want to stay in the room. We are an independent French shop, based in Paris, and we put that independence to work for one purpose only: getting the light right in your home.
We do not believe in mass consumption. We believe in objects that have presence, that are made of something, and that hold up over time. That is why we work as selectors rather than as a catalogue.
A demanding selection. Every wall light, every pendant light and every lamp is chosen for the care taken in making it and for the way its finish holds. Travertine, alabaster, wood, opal glass, brass: we keep the pieces whose finish lives up to the drawing. The exact materials of each model, its dimensions and its bulb cap are set out on its product page, so that you know precisely what you are putting up in your home.
Real stone, not an imitation. Our travertine pendant lights and our alabaster flush ceiling lights are cut from the stone, with the veining and the variation in shade that come with it. No two pieces are quite the same, and that is exactly what we are after. The wiring is built into the metal structure, so that nothing distracts from the material.
Visual balance. We favour restrained, timeless lines that sit as easily in a contemporary interior as in a more classic flat. A good light does not date with the trends: it stays with your home.
Lighting a hallway, framing a bedhead, hanging a light above a table or setting a lamp on a console are not the same job, and they do not call for the same fitting. That is why our catalogue is organised by use: wall lights to pick out a wall or frame a mirror, and in pairs either side of a bed or a mirror where the piece lends itself to it; pendant lights to give shape to a table or an entrance; flush ceiling lights for discreet general lighting; table lamps for reading corners; bedside lamps for bedrooms; and cordless lamps where there is no socket. Each room its light, each use its collection.
Coming to Alborra means relying on a considered selection and on real help along the way. We do not leave you alone in front of hundreds of references: our detailed descriptions, our stated dimensions and our customer service are there to help you put together the lighting that suits you.
Whether you are looking for a wooden pendant light for a dining room, a travertine table lamp for a console, or simply a wooden flush ceiling light for a child's bedroom, we take it as a point of pride that every piece you put up becomes part of your day.
We source our lights from partner manufacturers, in France and abroad, chosen for the way their finishes hold. We favour materials that last, stone and wood above all, which can be cleaned, take on a patina and be passed on, rather than plastics that have to be replaced after a few years.
That commitment shows itself with every order:
