This travertine pendant light plays on the warmth of a yellow natural stone and the plainness of solid wood. It is compact and sculptural, 17 cm across, and it suits contemporary rooms that like honest materials.

A yellow travertine pendant light with solid wood

The shade of this travertine pendant light is cut from yellow travertine, a stone with a warm, honey tone that varies from one piece to the next. The pores and the shades are part of its character, so each shade is slightly different from another. It is paired with solid wood, which adds a calm, natural counterpoint to the colour of the stone. The shade measures 17 cm across and 12.5 cm high, and the ceiling rose measures 10 cm across and 2.5 cm deep. A travertine pendant light of this size is compact, which makes it easy to place over a bedside table, in a hall, over a console, or in a group of three over a table. The yellow of the stone is the main decision: it is warmer than the usual sand tone, so it suits rooms with white walls, pale timber and natural textiles, and a travertine pendant light of this colour can give a neutral scheme a little sun. Yellow travertine is not the grey or sand tone most people expect, and that is its interest: it looks warm even when it is switched off. The wood, in a plain finish, ties the stone to the furniture around it. The form is simple enough that the stone is the whole subject of the fitting, and its colour is seen at its best by day, when the surface is lit from the window.

Specifications of a travertine pendant light rated IP20

This travertine pendant light is rated IP20, which means it is made for indoor use in a dry room and offers no protection against water. Keep it out of bathrooms, away from steam and splashes. It takes a single E27 Edison screw (ES) bulb, not included. The cable of this travertine pendant light is adjustable up to 170 cm, which gives you a long range of heights, and the ceiling rose is 10 cm across. The supply runs from 220 to 240 V AC, which covers an ordinary 230 V supply. The recommended lighting area is 3 to 5 square metres, so one fitting suits a small table, a bedside or a corner, and several are needed for a larger space. With a shade 17 cm across, this travertine pendant light is made for a small, defined space rather than a whole room. We recommend a qualified electrician for the connection, as for any fixed fitting. A standard E27 cap means that the choice of bulb is yours, and a warm white shows the colour of the stone at its best.

Using a travertine pendant light as a small accent

Because the lighting area is modest, this travertine pendant light works best as an accent. Hang it over a bedside table, where the cable can be shortened to bring the stone to eye level, or over a console in a hall, where it gives a warm point of light. A group of three travertine pendant lights at different heights suits a dining table, and each one adds its own 3 to 5 square metres of light. Hung at slightly different heights, three of them read as a loose cluster of warm stones. The solid wood keeps the colour of the stone from looking too sweet, and plain linen or white walls let it stand out. Under a 2.40 m ceiling, the 170 cm cable of a travertine pendant light is far more than you need for any place where people walk, since the usual guideline puts the lowest point of a pendant at 2.10 m above the finished floor, so shorten it to suit. At 12.5 cm high, the shade takes little headroom. Wipe the stone of a travertine pendant light with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, because a porous surface keeps what it absorbs. Three of them need three bulbs, so choose a warm LED to keep the total output modest. Pair the fitting with warm bulbs, natural wood and linen. Leave space around the shade so that the colour of the stone can be seen from every side.

Yellow travertine and solid wood: this travertine pendant light is compact and warm. Hang one by a bed or three over a table, and let the colour of the stone give the room its light.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.

    How we choose a light

    A light for every room

A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.

    Stone, not an imitation

The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.

A third of our lights have a built-in LED: nothing to buy. The others take a standard bulb, which is generally not supplied. The bulb cap type is on the product page.

Will my stone light be identical to the photo?

    keyboard_arrow_down

No, and that is deliberate: travertine and alabaster are real stones, and the veining differs from one piece to the next. The shape and dimensions, however, are as specified.

Can I install a light in a bathroom?

Some models. The ‘bathroom zone rating’ entry appears on the relevant product pages — without it, keep the light for dry rooms.
