Description
keyboard_arrow_downThis travertine wall light sets a block of solid yellow stone against milky opal glass, in a geometric volume standing on a 10 cm cube base. The manner is part Nordic, part wabi-sabi and plainly modern. A travertine wall light of only 20 cm in height, giving a soft light that suits a bathroom or the wall above a vanity unit.
The appeal of this travertine wall light is that two simple volumes are allowed to do all the work: a block of stone and a sphere of glass, with nothing else added. The stone is solid yellow travertine, its tone shifting between yellow and beige with the open pores that quarried stone always carries, the kind of surface that makes a travertine wall light worth touching as well as looking at, and the milky opal glass beside it holds the source inside an even surface so nothing glares. Opal glass is the right material for this; a clear shade would show the lamp and undo the calm. The proportions are precise. With an overall height of 20 cm, a cube base of 10 cm by 10 cm and a depth of 10 cm, the travertine wall light is compact and very legible, almost sculptural, and it leaves the headroom of a 2.4 m room completely alone. A travertine wall light with a 10 cm projection also passes muster in a corridor, where anything deeper becomes a nuisance. A travertine wall light of this size belongs beside a mirror, above a basin, or on the narrow wall between a window and a corner. Fitted as a pair either side of a bathroom mirror it gives light across a face rather than down onto it, which is the arrangement most British buyers are actually searching for when they look for wall lights either side of something. One on its own will do for a cloakroom.
This travertine wall light uses a G9 cap, with a single lampholder. The lamp is not included, so the source can be chosen for the atmosphere you want. The fitting is compatible with LED, halogen and energy-saving lamps, three families of G9 to choose between on colour, consumption or quality of light; a warm LED is the sensible default, since it keeps the yellow in the travertine and costs least to run. Its lighting area of 3 to 6 square metres is the honest measure of what this travertine wall light is for: a small shower room, a cloakroom, a corridor or one side of a bedroom, rather than a whole lounge. Expect to add a second source in anything larger. Installation is on the wall, and the fitting is presented as ideally suited to a bathroom or the wall above a vanity unit, which puts a travertine wall light of this kind exactly where you would want stone and glass to be, beside a mirror. Voltage runs from 110 V to 240 V, with CE and UL marks, so a British circuit presents no problem. Material, dimensions, cap, compatibility, coverage and voltage are all published, which is what allows the fitting to be planned rather than guessed at. No weight is quoted; solid stone is dense, so fix accordingly and spread the load on plasterboard. A solid travertine wall light on a hollow wall wants an anchor rated well above what you expect to hang.
In a room of 3 to 6 square metres, a small shower room or a corridor, a single travertine wall light can set the atmosphere on its own, because the light it gives is soft and diffuse rather than directional. In anything larger, treat it as one layer among several. Before ordering, line up a compatible G9 lamp, confirm your supply falls within the 110 V to 240 V range, and reserve the position: the 10 cm cube asks for very little space, but it deserves clear plaster around it. Beside a vanity unit, set the travertine wall light at eye level so the glass sits level with a face. It settles into a room like an object placed there rather than fitted, taking as much light as it gives. That is the quality a travertine wall light has and a painted fitting never will.
Solid yellow stone, milky opal glass and a geometric volume 20 cm high: this travertine wall light brings real material to a small room without raising its voice. Choose a warm G9 lamp, allow clear wall around it, and fit a pair if there is a mirror to flank. The stone will differ between the two, which is as it should be.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.
A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.
The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
Exact dimensions, material, bulb cap type, what is included: everything is on the product page. You know what you are installing.
