Description
keyboard_arrow_downAn alabaster wall light changes what a wall does with light: instead of a direct beam there is a milky, veined glow that moves with the stone. This sculptural model in real alabaster comes in three versions, mounts on a wall or a ceiling, and is as much at home in a corridor as in a bathroom. An alabaster wall light turns a plain surface into a source.
The body of this alabaster wall light is cut from real alabaster, white and translucent, with mineral veining that belongs to the individual block rather than to the design. That is why no two fittings match, and why a lit alabaster wall light never looks like a bulb behind a diffuser: the stone itself carries the light, unevenly, and the veins read as darker and lighter passages across the face. Three versions are offered. Model A and model C measure 22 cm wide by 30 cm high, while model B measures 22 cm wide by 23 cm high, so the width is constant and only the silhouette changes. At those dimensions an alabaster wall light sits well on an ordinary British wall, with enough presence to hold a hallway and little enough height to leave room above and below under a 2.4 m ceiling. The shorter model B suits a low wall, the space under a sloping ceiling or a tight return; models A and C, at 30 cm, assert themselves more. Mounted on a ceiling the same fitting becomes a small flush ceiling light, which is useful in a box room or a landing. Between them the three models cover most British walls, and the constant 22 cm width means a mixed pair still lines up.
Behind the stone the arrangement is simple, which is what you want from a fitting that will be behind tiles or above a mirror for twenty years. This alabaster wall light takes a standard G9 capsule and a lamp of 10 W maximum, incandescent or the LED equivalent, not supplied. Within that limit the choice is open, so the mood of the room stays in your hands rather than the manufacturer. The alabaster wall light is compatible with a dimmer, sold separately, and dimming is where this material earns its money: dropped low in the evening, the stone stops being a light and becomes a lit object. It is rated for damp locations, which is what allows it into a bathroom or a covered outdoor space, with the exact position set against the zones by whoever wires it. An alabaster wall light in a bathroom is unusual enough to be worth the extra care at the planning stage, and the reward is a material nobody else on the street will have. Mounting is on the wall or on the ceiling. No weight is published for this fitting, so treat alabaster as the dense material it is and use fixings suited to the substrate you have, spreading the load on plasterboard rather than trusting a single screw. Alabaster is stone, and the fixings are the one part of an alabaster wall light nobody should economise on.
In a bathroom, the damp rating lets an alabaster wall light flank a mirror, and a pair at eye level on either side gives light across a face rather than down onto it, which is both kinder and more useful for shaving or make-up. In a hallway, the 22 cm width lets the fitting be read from the far end without narrowing the passage. Repeated along a landing, an alabaster wall light gives a softer run of light than downlights set into the ceiling, and it puts the light where people actually look. Match the height of the alabaster wall light to the wall rather than to the room: model B at 23 cm for a low or interrupted wall, model A or C at 30 cm where there is clear plaster to fill. If you want a changeable atmosphere, add the dimmer at the same time as the fitting, since retrofitting one means lifting the plate again. Stay within the 10 W ceiling of the alabaster wall light, and choose a warm lamp if you want the veining to look like stone rather than like glass. Expect each alabaster wall light to differ; that is what a quarried material gives you. It is also what a photograph cannot promise.
Sculptural, translucent and rated for damp locations as well as living rooms, this alabaster wall light brings soft light and a genuine material to the wall. Choose the model whose height suits your space, add a lamp inside the 10 W limit, and let the stone do the work.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.
A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.
The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
Exact dimensions, material, bulb cap type, what is included: everything is on the product page. You know what you are installing.
