Description
keyboard_arrow_downA glazed ceramic pendant light can be small and still be remembered. This retro model has a glossy glazed ceramic shade only 14 cm across, with brass fittings and a twisted cable. It is an accent light for an area of 5 to 10 m², hung where a little warmth and shine are wanted.
This glazed ceramic pendant light is built on a small scale. The shade measures 14 cm across and just 6 cm high, a shallow, rounded form that sits close to the ceiling base, which is 12 cm across. The material is glazed ceramic with brass, and the finish is glossy, so the surface of the glazed ceramic pendant light reflects the bulb and the room in a smooth, bright skin. Glaze is a glassy coating fired onto the clay, which is why the surface is smooth and the colour deep; that gloss is the whole character of this piece. Brass gives the glazed ceramic pendant light a warm, gold-coloured note that answers the cream or pale tones of a glaze and the wood of a table. The twisted cable carries the retro idea: it is adjustable up to a maximum of 200 cm, a generous drop for a tall room or a stairwell, and it can be shortened for a low one. Because the shade is so small, a glazed ceramic pendant light of this kind suits places where a bigger fitting would be heavy: a bedside, a small landing, a pantry, a reading corner, the end of a counter. Hung in a row of three at an even height, the shades make a string of small, shiny domes. Hung singly, each one is a punctuation mark in the room rather than its main light, and it looks best against a plain wall.
The bulb cap of this glazed ceramic pendant light is a standard E27 Edison screw (ES), taking a bulb of up to 60 W, which leaves a comfortable margin for a shade this small. A 60 W limit is generous for a shade of 14 cm, and a small LED bulb of far lower power is enough for an accent light, so you may never reach it. The specification describes the glazed ceramic pendant light as an accent light for an area of 5 to 10 m², which is a useful guide: one pendant lights a corner or a small table, while a larger room needs several, or a main light with this as the accent. The cable is twisted and adjustable up to 200 cm, and the ceiling base measures 12 cm across. A glazed ceramic pendant light needs no special care: the surface is smooth, so a soft cloth is all that is required to remove dust or marks, and it should be wiped when the fitting is off and cool. Ceramic with a brass fitting is heavier than a thin metal shade, so ask your electrician to check the fixing before the pendant goes up. With a common bulb cap, a clear power limit and a smooth surface, the specification is short, and it tells you what the glazed ceramic pendant light is: a small accent, honestly made.
Because the shade is only 6 cm high, this glazed ceramic pendant light is easy to fit under the low ceilings common in British homes. Under a 2.40 m ceiling, a lowest point at 2.10 m above the finished floor leaves 30 cm, and the shade takes a fraction of it, so even over a hallway a short cable will do. Over a table or a bedside, you can use the full length of the cable to bring the light low and close. Think of the glazed ceramic pendant light as an accent, in line with the 5 to 10 m² given in the specification: it suits a single reading corner or a landing, or a pair either side of a mirror, and a main light elsewhere in the room does the general work. Choose a bulb for the glazed ceramic pendant light within the 60 W limit and in a warm colour, so the glaze keeps its gloss without glare. The brass suits warm wall colours, oak, plaster and linen, while a darker wall sets off the shine of the glaze. A glazed ceramic pendant light is quick to place and easy to move later. Because the cable can reach 200 cm, the same fitting can be moved to a taller room later and shortened again for a lower one.
A glossy glazed shade, brass fittings and a long twisted cable: this glazed ceramic pendant light is a small piece with a warm manner. Choose the spot, set the cable and let a little shine into the room.
