Description
keyboard_arrow_downThis travertine wall light is a small directional spot in two materials, real stone above a base in dark wood. At 16 cm high and 6.5 cm across it is a modest fitting that still reads as sculpture. A travertine wall light of this scale suits a lounge, a hallway or a bedside where a larger fitting would be too much.
Natural travertine is not a uniform material, and that is the whole point of a travertine wall light cut from it. The stone carries open pores, soft bands of tone and a grain that is never repeated from one piece to the next, so the fitting on your wall is not the one in the photograph. Honed and left matt rather than polished, the surface stays calm; a high-gloss finish would turn the same stone into something quite different and much less welcome in a British room. The base in dark wood grounds the stone and keeps the two materials from competing. A travertine wall light of 16 cm reads as a punctuation mark rather than a statement, which is why it works in a series: three or four along a corridor at even centres, or a pair either side of a bed, where both halves of the long British search for wall lights either side of something are satisfied at once. It also stands alone perfectly well, a single point of light above a console or beside an armchair. Because the body is narrow at 6.5 cm, this travertine wall light settles comfortably against a lime-plastered or slightly irregular wall instead of demanding a flat one. Few materials are as forgiving of an old wall.
The measurements of this travertine wall light are 16 cm high, 6.5 cm wide or in diameter, and 10.5 cm deep. The projection is the figure to note in a narrow hallway, since 10.5 cm is little enough to pass without catching a sleeve, and the height means nothing hangs down into the headroom of a 2.4 m room. That is a real consideration where a hallway is 90 cm wide and a travertine wall light has to live beside a row of coat hooks. It weighs 0.85 kg, which tells you more than any adjective: that is the weight of real stone rather than a moulded shell, and it is the number your electrician will want before choosing fixings. On a solid wall it is nothing; on plasterboard, use a hollow-wall anchor and not a plain screw, and the travertine wall light will sit without creeping. The light source is a GU10 cap, the standard spot fitting, with a maximum of 12 W; the lamp is not supplied, so the colour temperature is yours to set. The fitting runs on 110 to 240 V alternating current, which covers a British supply comfortably. A GU10 narrows the beam by nature, so a travertine wall light of this kind gives an accent rather than general light, and a moderate lamp within the 12 W limit is ample. Nothing on this travertine wall light needs servicing, and the lamp changes from the front without taking the body off the wall.
Choose a warm white GU10 lamp. It brings the ochre and cream out of the stone, where a cool lamp flattens them and leaves the travertine looking grey. Keep within 12 W: more output does not improve a 6.5 cm fitting, it simply makes the beam harder. In a hallway, aim the travertine wall light along the wall rather than across it, so the light grazes the surface and the texture of the plaster comes forward with the texture of the stone. Beside a bed, mount it at shoulder height when seated, a little behind the pillow line. A travertine wall light set there lights the page and not the room. In a lounge it can sit low beside a chair, almost at skirting height, which is an underused position and a flattering one at night. The 0.85 kg mass is worth respecting at the fitting stage, as it is for any piece of stone on a wall, so set the plugs properly and let it earn its place. A travertine wall light like this does not ask to be noticed; it simply sits on the wall like a pebble set down and left there.
Real travertine, a dark wood base, 16 cm of height, 0.85 kg and a single GU10 lamp inside a 12 W limit: this travertine wall light gives a wall genuine material and very little noise. Fit one as an accent, or several in a row, and let the stone carry the room.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.
A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.
The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
Exact dimensions, material, bulb cap type, what is included: everything is on the product page. You know what you are installing.
