Description
keyboard_arrow_downThis Art Deco alabaster wall light pairs a cylindrical diffuser of real cream-white alabaster with a finely fluted solid brass base. The alabaster wall light gives a soft light and draws an elegant vertical line. One for rooms that like a material with some substance.
The Art Deco manner liked vertical lines, geometric forms and rich materials. This alabaster wall light brings the three together without strain. The cylindrical diffuser is real alabaster, whose natural white and cream veining is unique to each piece, so two examples of this alabaster wall light are never identical, and that is where the charm lies. Lit, the stone turns translucent and shows its gradations like a miniature landscape, lighter in places, denser in others, with veins running top to bottom. The format of the alabaster wall light is slender at 12 cm wide by 38 cm tall, a proportion that lengthens the wall visually and suits a room where height is worth emphasising; under a 2.4 m ceiling it reads well with the centre just above eye level. The solid brass base, finely reeded, echoes the verticality of the cylinder, while the black foot draws a clean outline. This alabaster wall light therefore stands in a decorative tradition of geometry and good materials without lapsing into pastiche. Fitted either side of a chimney breast, a mirror, a bed or a console, it gives a room immediate character, and a pair either side of a hall mirror sets the tone at the threshold. The wiring is integrated, for a clean installation with no cable on show.
The fluted solid brass is the second character in this alabaster wall light. Its fine ribbing catches the light and returns it warm, answering the pallor of the stone, while the black foot balances the whole and ties the piece to a contemporary room. Technically, the alabaster wall light takes a single standard E26/E27 Edison screw (ES) lampholder, with a recommended maximum of 40 W, incandescent or LED equivalent. The bulb is not supplied, so the colour temperature is yours to choose, and a warm tone flatters alabaster most. This alabaster wall light is dimmer compatible, the dimmer sold separately, which lets you set the stone bright enough to move through a hallway or low for the evening. The specification records a damp-location certification, presented as suited to bathrooms and covered outdoor spaces, together with conformity to North American, Australian, European and Middle Eastern standards. That widens the choice of room, subject to the wiring rules that apply where you live, so check the exact position of the alabaster wall light against any source of water and follow your electrician on the point. Reeded brass with a stone cylinder is not a light assembly, so the fixing deserves confirming with your electrician before the back box position is finally set.
Think of what this alabaster wall light is for: it works like a piece of jewellery on the wall. Set it at a height where the whole cylinder reads, usually a little above eye level, so the light falls down the surface. Against a dark wall the pale stone comes forward strongly; against a pale wall it blends more delicately and lets the reeded brass take the lead instead. One alabaster wall light either side of a bathroom mirror or a bed is particularly satisfying, symmetry being an Art Deco signature and two units being what that arrangement needs. Choose a bulb whose shape fits within the cylinder, stay under the 40 W maximum, and favour a warm LED to keep the heat down inside the diffuser. If you plan to use a dimmer, check the bulb is compatible before you buy it, since not every LED will dim smoothly. Isolate the circuit before connecting and ask an electrician to make the installation if you are unsure. Once in place, look at the alabaster wall light at different hours: its translucency shifts with the ambient light. A soft dry cloth is enough for both the brass and the stone of an alabaster wall light, and the reeded brass wants nothing more than dusting to keep its warmth. Under a low ceiling, measure the clearance above the cylinder before fixing, since 38 cm reads taller than it sounds once the fitting is on the wall.
Real alabaster, reeded brass and an upright silhouette: this alabaster wall light brings a measure of Art Deco elegance indoors, on a single E27 lampholder of 40 W maximum and with a dimmer if you want one. Add it to your basket and let its unique stone light the wall.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.
A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.
The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
Exact dimensions, material, bulb cap type, what is included: everything is on the product page. You know what you are installing.
