Description
keyboard_arrow_downWider and more enveloping, this brass alabaster wall light measures 18 cm long by 23 cm wide and 20 cm high. Its shade in real stone carved from the solid block spreads a soft light you can bring down with a compatible dimmer. This alabaster wall light therefore gives ambient light you set yourself.
Volume is the first signature of this alabaster wall light. At 18 cm long, 23 cm wide and 20 cm high, it takes the form of a squatter, more enveloping fitting than the slim vertical models. The stone, cut from the block, gathers the light into a round and warming mass. Around it the brass frame draws a gold outline that underlines the shape. This alabaster wall light works with a dimmer, not included, so you can move from a clear light for walking through to a low one for the end of the evening. That flexibility makes it an ambient fitting for a bedroom, a lounge or a sitting room. Mounted high above a sofa or a bed, it can wash the wall as much as light the room. In a wide corridor or a hall, an alabaster wall light of this volume becomes a marker. Its mineral surface agrees with linen, oak and glazed ceramic. The light passes through the stone in subtle gradations, and the veins appear like a cloud held still. On switching on, the stone seems to hold the light before giving it back, which shows most in the evening. Seen at an angle, this alabaster wall light reveals the full depth of its veining. That generous presence gives a room warmth without adding another decorative object to it.
This alabaster wall light joins a shade of real alabaster, carved from the solid block, to a brass frame. Its dimensions are 18 cm long, 23 cm wide and 20 cm high, and the 23 cm across the wall is the figure to hold in mind for a narrow space. The cap is a standard E26/E27 Edison screw (ES), compatible with a dimmer that is not included: if you want to vary the light, allow for that dimmer at installation rather than afterwards. Mounting is to the wall, with integrated wiring best left to an electrician. This alabaster wall light is designed for indoor use in a dry atmosphere, so it belongs in living rooms and bedrooms rather than in damp areas. As with any natural stone, the veining, the tone and the translucency vary from piece to piece, and your example will not look exactly like another. That is part of the appeal of a real alabaster wall light, which keeps the record of how it was formed. Measure the space before buying, because in length and width this model takes more room than a slim fitting and wants a clear wall to breathe on. Remember too that the dimmer for this alabaster wall light is a separate item: it is not part of the fitting, and its compatibility has to be checked against the bulb you choose. An electrician will advise on the pairing that suits your circuit. A stone shade of this volume is worth mentioning to whoever drills the wall, because the fixing follows from the mass it has to carry.
The dimmer changes what the fitting is for. At full output this alabaster wall light lights a reading corner or a route through the house; turned down, it lets the stone glow gently, closer to an elegant night light. To make use of that, buy a dimmer compatible with your chosen bulb and have it fitted at the same time as the light. In a bedroom the dimmer carries you from reading to sleep without changing lamp. In a lounge it follows the shape of an evening. An alabaster wall light on a dimmer sits well alongside other soft sources, a table lamp or a pendant light. On decoration, gold brass agrees with warm tones, plastered walls and joinery, and holds its own against pale surfaces. Set the fitting at a height that keeps you from looking straight into the stone from a seat, since this volume is better seen slightly above eye level. One alabaster wall light of this size is often enough on its own; if you fit several, space them so they converse rather than compete. In a spare bedroom, an alabaster wall light on a dimmer gives a guest a light they can set themselves, with no extra lamp on the table.
Generous, warm and adjustable, this alabaster wall light brings a light you measure to your own evening. Choose it to warm a wall with some composure.

The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
