Description
keyboard_arrow_downThis alabaster wall light hangs a diffuser of white stone from a brass frame, carried on an adjustable rod that drops away from the wall. The light it gives is soft, and the silhouette it draws is a vertical 76 cm tall. An alabaster wall light for a wall that deserves more than a single point of light.
The diffuser of this alabaster wall light is natural white alabaster, 26 cm high and 10 cm in diameter, hanging from an adjustable 50 cm rod, and that suspension is what separates it from a compact fitting screwed flat to the plaster. There is movement in it. The wall plate is 12 cm in diameter and takes the connection, and the whole assembly projects only 10 cm from the wall, which is the figure that makes it usable in a narrow British hallway where anything deeper would be caught by a shoulder. Overall the alabaster wall light reaches 76 cm in height, so it occupies a wall properly and dresses it as a tall narrow picture would. Real alabaster passes light through its veins, which gives this alabaster wall light a milky brightness rather than a bright point. Brass carries as much of the character here as the stone does, and the frame is offered in brushed brass or blackened brass: the first warms, the second sharpens, and the choice should be made against the ironmongery already in the room. A fitting of this stature is often best in pairs, either side of a bed or a mirror, but it holds a large wall perfectly well on its own.
The frame is brass; the diffuser is real natural white alabaster; the lampholder is E14 small Edison screw (SES), and the fitting recommends an LED or filament lamp of around 12 W maximum. E14 is a common cap and easy to source, which keeps the choice of colour temperature wide and the cost of replacement low. The supply accepts 110 V to 240 V alternating current, with a recessed wall connection, so this alabaster wall light suits a British circuit without adaptation. Its protection rating is IP20, which makes it an indoor fitting: keep it away from a shower, a bath and any direct splash. An alabaster wall light of this construction belongs in a bedroom, a hallway or a lounge. The 76 cm overall height and the 50 cm rod deserve a thought about ceiling height before anything is drilled. In a room of 2.4 m, the plate needs to sit high enough that the bottom of the stone stays clear of a head when someone passes, and because the rod is adjustable you can set the final position of the diffuser after the plate is fixed rather than before. That adjustability is the practical answer to a low ceiling, and it is why an alabaster wall light of this height is less demanding than its figures suggest. Measure the clear wall from the plate position down to the top of the furniture before you order, and let the rod take care of the rest.
With a 10 cm projection and a 12 cm plate, this alabaster wall light goes where a bulkier fitting would be a nuisance: a narrow corridor, the wall beside a door, the return next to a window. Give it clear plaster. Above a chest of drawers, a console or a bedside table the 76 cm height balances the furniture and draws the eye upward, which is worth a great deal in a room with a low ceiling. Set the alabaster wall light so the bottom of the stone falls just above eye level when you are standing, and the glow will land on the wall rather than in your face. Use the 50 cm rod of the alabaster wall light to set the stone at the height you want once you have lived with the position for a day. For colour, white alabaster settles against pale walls, matt plaster and sand tones, but it is on a dark wall that it really tells, where the milky light becomes the focal point. Choose a warm lamp inside the recommended wattage and leave the dimming to the stone. A second alabaster wall light on the far side of the same wall gives you symmetry without doubling the brightness, since each one is modest on its own.
Real alabaster, a brass frame in brushed or blackened finish, 76 cm of vertical presence and only 10 cm of projection: this alabaster wall light is a considered piece rather than a convenient one. Its adjustable rod and ordinary E14 cap make it simple to fit and simpler still to live with.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.
A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.
The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.
Exact dimensions, material, bulb cap type, what is included: everything is on the product page. You know what you are installing.
