This alabaster wall light pairs a shade of real alabaster, carved from solid stone, with a brass structure. It comes in two heights, 60 and 80 cm, both 20 cm wide. The integrated LED source and the natural material make it a fitting with presence for carefully put-together contemporary rooms.

An alabaster wall light carved from solid stone

Real alabaster is what gives this alabaster wall light its point. The shade is neither moulded nor reconstituted: it is carved from solid stone, worked directly until the final form is reached. That method explains the most important thing to know about the piece, which is that the veining, the tone and the translucency vary from one example to the next. No two are exactly alike, and the one that arrives at your door has its own grain and its own way of letting light through. This is a quality rather than a fault; it is the signature of a natural stone. On the wall, this alabaster wall light reads as an object as much as a light source, and it goes on doing so when it is switched off. The brass structure frames the stone and supports it without raising its voice. Two sizes are offered: 20 cm wide by 60 cm tall, or 20 cm wide by 80 cm tall. The taller version wants a clear wall and a generous volume; in a room with a 2.4 m ceiling the 60 cm version is the safer choice for a hallway or a bedside. Unlit, this alabaster wall light shows its veining; lit, the translucency takes over, at an intensity particular to each piece.

Brass, integrated LED and installing the alabaster wall light

Technically, this alabaster wall light carries its own integrated LED source, so there is no bulb to buy to put it to work and no lampholder format to match. It runs on 110-240 V AC, a band that covers the common domestic supply, and the wiring is built into the fitting rather than left to be made up on site. Connecting a wall fitting is still sensitive work, and an electrician is recommended for the installation. The brass structure and finish complete the shade and hold the whole together with the discipline of a worked metal. One point matters for choosing well: this alabaster wall light is intended for indoor use in dry rooms. Keep it to the living room, the bedroom, the hallway or the entrance, and avoid a bathroom or any outdoor position. That clearly drawn limit is what lets you enjoy the stone for years. The two heights, 60 and 80 cm, share the same 20 cm width and the same construction, so the decision rests only on the wall you have. Stone of this size is not light, and an alabaster wall light is no exception, so on a dry-lined or stud wall it is worth agreeing the fixings with your electrician before the back box goes in; a fixing into a noggin or a proper cavity anchor is the difference between a fitting that sits true for years and one that works loose. Set alongside other natural materials such as timber or ceramic, an alabaster wall light never competes with them.

Choosing and placing your alabaster wall light room by room

Start from the position. In a living room the 80 cm version takes on a large bare wall or frames a sofa, while the 60 cm version suits a hallway, an entrance or a headboard better. Fit this alabaster wall light in pairs for symmetry, or singly to animate a partition. Remember that the translucency of alabaster belongs to each piece: two apparently identical fittings may show slightly different tones, which is precisely the charm of a natural material. Plan for an electrician to make the connection, all the more so because the wiring is already integrated and the 110-240 V AC supply suits an ordinary household circuit. Keep to indoor, dry rooms and leave the bathroom out of the reckoning. Think about mounting height too: at 60 or 80 cm tall, an alabaster wall light presents itself first as a vertical silhouette, so set it where the stone is clearly in view without getting in the way of circulation. Against plain walls, pale or deep, the material speaks for itself. Either side of a sofa or a headboard, an alabaster wall light of this height asks for two units rather than one, and the slight difference between the two stones is what keeps the arrangement from looking manufactured. Mark the centre line on the wall and step back before the cable is run.

This alabaster wall light brings together real stone carved from the solid, quiet brass and an integrated LED. Choose the height that suits your wall and give the room a piece that exists only once. Each example has its own veining and its own translucency.

Light decides whether a room makes you want to stay. Each light is chosen for its material and for what it does with it.

    How we choose a light

    A light for every room

A hallway, a bedhead or a table each call for a different light. Our collections are organised by use.

    Stone, not an imitation

The market is full of painted resin that imitates marble. Our travertines and alabasters are cut from stone: no two pieces are identical.

A third of our lights have a built-in LED: nothing to buy. The others take a standard bulb, which is generally not supplied. The bulb cap type is on the product page.

Will my stone light be identical to the photo?

    keyboard_arrow_down

No, and that is deliberate: travertine and alabaster are real stones, and the veining differs from one piece to the next. The shape and dimensions, however, are as specified.

Can I install a light in a bathroom?

Some models. The ‘bathroom zone rating’ entry appears on the relevant product pages — without it, keep the light for dry rooms.
