Description
keyboard_arrow_downThis black alabaster wall light sets the strength of a matt metal against the softness of stone carved from the solid block. Long and slim, it draws a vertical of light on the wall and gives back a glow that belongs to its own piece of stone. An alabaster wall light for anyone who prefers real materials and a held line.
At 12 cm wide by 50 cm high, this alabaster wall light takes a slim format that stretches along the wall without taking it over. The shade is cut from a block of real alabaster, which gives it a mineral presence that neither glass nor plastic imitates. When the LED comes on, the stone turns translucent and its veins appear, from the palest to the deepest. Those veins, the tone and the translucency vary from piece to piece, so every alabaster wall light differs slightly from its neighbour. That singularity is the signature of natural stone: not a fault, but the proof that no two fittings are quite the same. The matt black metal that holds the assembly contrasts with the clarity of the stone and acts as a graphic setting for it. On a pale wall this alabaster wall light reads as a fine line; on a dark wall it lights up like a stroke of light hung in the air. Its matt black agrees without effort with window frames, picture frames and the black brassware found in many contemporary British rooms. Its long shape suits narrow walls, the sides of a chimney breast, or either side of a tall mirror, which is where a pair earns its keep. An alabaster wall light of this kind appeals to anyone who would rather have a living material than a uniform surface.
The source in this alabaster wall light is an integrated LED, with no cap and no bulb to choose. It runs at AC 110-240V, which covers the supplies in use across most countries. The wiring is integrated; an electrician is recommended for the connection at the wall. The major technical asset of this alabaster wall light is its IP44 rating, which protects it against splashing water. That protection widens where it can go: indoors, in a bathroom at zone 2, or outdoors under cover. A bathroom, a covered porch, a sheltered terrace, and the fitting changes setting without changing character. Choosing an alabaster wall light this adaptable saves holding several references around the house, since one model can light the inside corridor and the covered porch. Its matt black frame avoids needless reflections and leaves the attention on the stone. The integrated LED also removes the constraints of bulb size, so the fitting stays slim over the whole of its 50 cm, with no bulge where a lampholder would sit. The contrast between stone, milky and alive, and metal, crisp and graphic, makes this alabaster wall light rigorous and warm at once. That combination of apparent sturdiness and delicate light is what singles out an alabaster wall light carved from the solid block, and it is also what your electrician will notice when it comes out of the box. A stone shade of 50 cm deserves a fixing chosen for the wall it is going into, and that decision belongs with the electrician rather than with the decorator.
For a sound installation, leave the connection of this alabaster wall light to an electrician, as the technical sheet recommends. Allow for a flat, sound wall, then settle the mounting height before drilling: at 50 cm tall, the fitting has to sit within the proportions of the wall, which is worth drawing out on a 2.4 m ceiling height before anyone picks up a drill. In a bathroom, fit it at zone 2 to make use of the IP44 rating, either side of the mirror for instance. An alabaster wall light of this height sends light up and down the vertical, a gentler approach than a downlight or a flush ceiling light allows. If you fit several, accept their differences: the veining and translucency vary, which animates a composition rather than weighing it down. Outdoors, give it a sheltered position, under a canopy or in a covered entrance, in keeping with its intended use. An alabaster wall light of this sort agrees with dark timber furniture, a stone basin or matt tiling, for a plain and coherent room. Keep in mind that alabaster is a natural material, and its beauty rests precisely on those shifts of tone and transparency.
Carved from the solid block, protected to IP44 and fitted with an integrated LED, this black alabaster wall light brings character, restraint and real adaptability. Choose the stone that suits you and let its light into the room.
